Executive Director

General Summary and Objectives
The Executive Director (“ED”) is responsible for overseeing the administration, programs, and strategic plan of Morning Star Pregnancy Services (“Morning Star” or “organization”). The position reports directly to the Board of Directors (“Board”). The ED is responsible for implementing the goals, objectives, policies, and plans as defined by the Board. The ED:
- Ensures that the organization is provided with appropriate support systems and responsive, quality service in the areas of program services, human resources, development, accounting, and related administrative functions necessary to promote the organization’s mission in the community and to provide excellent client services.
- Plans, implements, supports, and evaluates programs with the Director of Advancement, Director of Educational Programs, Client Services Director, and Nurse Manager to ensure the growth and stability of the organization.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Cooperates with the Board of Directors in governance.

- Assists the Board in strategic planning, developing objectives and goals, annual planning (including budgeting and program development), and in policy development.
- Implements goals, objectives, policies, annual plans set by the Board and incorporates them into the daily operations of the organization.
- Interfaces between the Board, staff, and other constituencies.
- Provides the Board with information, updates, and regular reports regarding the administration and operations of the organization (financial, programmatic, public relations, HR, etc.).
- Informs the Board of problems or anticipated problems and consults with the Board on such matters so that the mission of the organization may be carried out effectively.
- Prepares agendas and other materials for Board Meetings, handling related logistics.
- Holds monthly meetings with Executive Committee of the Board.
- Assists in recruiting potential new Board members.
- Supports Morning Star’s mission through program and service development and delivery.

- Develops a plan (cost, timeframe, resources needed, needs that are met, relationship to organization’s mission) for programs and services that support the mission and meet client needs and follow appropriate guidelines (governmental, organizational, professional, etc.), including Board expectations, Heartbeat International’s Commitment of Care and Competence, budget, laws, etc.
- Implements and executes plans, evaluates effectiveness, and makes changes, as needed and appropriate, after consultation with the Board.
- Ensures quality, best practices, and other legal or required standards are met in the implementation and execution of services and programs.
- Overseas client services and administration.
- Follows all appropriate and applicable policies and procedures, regulations, and restrictions (governmental and organizational), including those applicable to medical services, budget, etc.
- Research community needs in areas pertinent to the mission of the organization.
- Fosters growth and stability of the organization, including fundraising, public relations, and marketing.

- Serves as major representative of the organization to the staff, donors, the community, and other center constituencies.
- Develops and suggests plans for growth to the Board and implements effectively and efficiently those plans and programs approved by the Board.
- Oversees a plan for marketing to inform external constituencies about the organization and foster support, including financial, for the organization’s mission.
- Overseas communication with external constituencies. Communicates and interacts with other community organizations (churches, help/aid agencies), governmental agencies and leaders, general community, media, donors, and prospective donors for the purpose of educating and fostering good relationships and support.
- Networks with other life-affirming organizations.
- Provides the Board with reports and projections regarding changing facility, staffing, financial situations, and plans for facilitating and accommodating change and growth in these areas. Advises the Board of any problems that may affect the organization’s stability and growth and offers possible solutions.
- Overseas fundraising, planning and execution consistent with Board objectives.
- Follows appropriate and applicable policies and procedures, regulations and restrictions (governmental and organizational), including fundraising solicitation regulations, budget, etc.
- Responsible for the administration and management of the organization’s resources.

- Analyzes needs of the organization for daily operation and develops plans to meet the dynamic needs of the organization.
- Works with Client Services Director to ensure recruitment of volunteers and employees to fulfill Board approved plans, according to appropriate guidelines, such as Board approved budget.
- Works with staff to ensure the training of volunteers and staff to promote the mission, provide quality services, successfully execute the responsibilities of their positions and follow appropriate regulations, policies and procedures. Provides enrichment and growth (personal and professional) opportunities.
- Supervises or oversees the management of volunteers and staff in the execution of their responsibilities for the efficient and effective carrying out of the organization’s mission. Provides timely informal and formal performance evaluation, feedback, and goal setting.
- Creates a culture and office atmosphere that encourages openness, honesty, trust, respect, Christian reconciliation, restoration, and unity.
- Plans and manages facility and facility resources.
- Oversees the administration of the organizations budget.
- Ensures appropriate, accurate, and relevant recordkeeping and reporting.
- Oversees the development of all forms, documents, reports, manuals and other materials necessary for the efficient and effective operation of the organization: client forms and materials; volunteer forms and materials; recruiting, hiring, training and operation forms and materials (job descriptions, performance reviews and employee handbook); financial reports; promotional and educational materials.
- Follows policies and procedures and complies with all legal and organizational policies and guidelines, including confidentiality, retention of information, employment law, budget, etc.
- Demonstrates strong servant leadership by supporting and promoting harmony and a ministry of restoration and reconciliation modeled after Christ’s example; serving clients and volunteers effectively and lovingly, and supporting and promoting Morning Star’s mission, vision, statement of faith, and core values.
- Performs special projects or tasks as assigned by the Board.
Direction/Authority
The ED serves at the pleasure of the Board of Directors. Under the general direction of the Board, the ED provides leadership for the organization, and manages staff (employees and volunteers).
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in business or nonprofit administration, human resource management, or related field. Master’s degree in related field preferred.
- Management or administrative experience, including managing a staff of twenty or more. One to five years of experience in the nonprofit sector required. Pregnancy center or other pro-life experience preferred.
- Successful fund-raising experience preferred.
- Problem solving and program development ability or skills to develop and evaluate programs and administer and manage operations and staff of the organization and resolve problems.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills to communicate effectively with multiple audiences and constituencies (Board, staff, volunteers, clients, donors, other organizations, government leaders, media) using a variety of formats.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to train, manage and influence all organizational constituencies.
- Self-starter with good judgment and integrity.
- Excellent administration and good organizational skills.
- Willingness and ability to serve clients and other Morning Star constituencies (including other staff, donors, vendors, etc.) in a way that honors Jesus Christ and supports and promotes Morning Star’s life-affirming ministry.
- Strong commitment to the pro-life position and to Morning Star’s mission, vision, statement of faith and core values personally and in the execution of position responsibilities.
- Willingness and ability to share the gospel of Jesus Christ by word and example, including prayer, to encourage clients, staff, and other Morning Star constituencies and to contribute to an office environment conducive to supporting Morning Star’s ministry of life.

Part-Time Bookkeeper
Morning Star currently has an opening for a part-time bookkeeper at our Harrisburg, PA, administrative office. The part time bookkeeper position requires applicant to possess:
- Associate Degree in Accounting with 5 years minimum experience
- Exhibited proficiency with Quickbooks, basic accounting, Excel and online banking
- Strong analytical, interpersonal and communication skills.
Responsibilities include:
- Perform basic accounting functions including accounts receivable, accounts payable, banking, petty cash fund, gift certificate log, new vendor set up, credit card processing, and other accounting functions as required.
- Tracking the use of Restricted Donations
- Entering all donation deposits into QuickBooks
- Journalizing the payroll entries into QuickBooks bi-weekly
- Preparing monthly bank statement reconciliations for active bank accounts, as well as the multi-person credit card reconciliations in QuickBooks
- Collating any/all digital (online cc and/or eft) donation information including into CRM software on a regular basis.
- Verifying monthly journal entries for depreciation
- Maintaining spreadsheet of received gift cards, track disbursement of same – journalize monthly activity
- Facilitate the receipt of stock donation, figuring the gain/loss on sale, acknowledge gift to donor
- Prepare quarterly reports for Board Meeting, including P&L Summary and Balance Sheet
- Prepare financial reports as requested
- Entering yearly budget into QuickBooks
- Preparing the groundwork for Functional expense allocations
- Assist with annual audit preparation and participation.
- Enter donations into donor management software
- Reconcile donor management software with QuickBooks
- Create donation reports
- Prepare and send quarterly donor Giving Statements
- Transport and Deposit coins processed from baby bottle donations
